Open ssh sessions in putty with chrome4/12/2024 Note: this example is designed for PuTTY but can be adapted for other applications. You must install PuTTY to enable SSH functionality. Follow this step-by-step guide to configure PuTTY as your native SSH Session handler on Windows. These tips and tricks will help you take advantage of your SSH. For more information, please see Configure Password Safe Access Policies. You can use SSH to tunnel your traffic, transfer files, mount remote file systems, and more. You can create a Windows Terminal profile that does this on startup by adding the commandline setting to a profile in your settings.json file inside the list of profile objects. SSH offers more than just a secure, remote terminal environment. For example, if you wanted to set up the same SSH tunnel as above, you'd enter 8888 as the source port and localhost:1234 as the destination. You can start an SSH session in your command prompt by executing ssh and you will be prompted to enter your password. For 'Destination', enter the destination address and port in the form remoteaddress:remoteport. In SSH, you dont have to run a general shell session on the server. However, the -m option expects to be given a local file name, and it will read a command from that file. Windows Terminal version 1.XX+ can dynamically generate profiles to connect to the SSH hosts within your OpenSSH config file. The -m option performs a similar function to the ‘Remote command’ box in the SSH panel of the PuTTY configuration box (see section 4.19.1 ).
